In 1938, Orson Welles and the Mercury Theatre broadcast a fictional invasion from Mars over American radio. It was presented as breaking news, and many people believed it and panicked. Police stations and newspapers were flooded with calls from startled listeners trying to learn the truth.

This is a true story.

However, at that time, people had little knowledge or exposure to the idea of extraterrestrial life compared with what we have today. Yet many trusted the voice coming through the radio.

Radio was the mass media of its time. It informed people, entertained them, connected them to the world and, whether they realized it or not, helped shape what they believed. Today, that radio sits in your pocket, and you carry it with you everywhere you go. We call it social media, news feeds, podcasts, search engines, video platforms and artificial intelligence. The reach of information has grown beyond anything they could have imagined.

And it can't all be true.

Here's where the story becomes even more interesting. For generations, Americans were told that Welles' broadcast created enormous nationwide panic. Later research revealed that the legendary scale of that panic had itself been exaggerated.

First, people believed the broadcast.

Then generations believed the story about the people who believed the broadcast.

Did history change, or just the way it was taught?

That's the problem we face today on a far larger scale. We aren't starving for information anymore. We're drowning in it, while the truth becomes increasingly difficult to find.

A photograph is no longer proof that something happened. A video can be created from nothing. A familiar voice can be cloned. A headline can travel around the world before anyone discovers whether it's true. Algorithms decide what appears in front of us. People who see the same event can be presented with completely different versions of what happened.

And somewhere inside that ocean of information is the truth.

That's why I wrote FAITH.

Not to tell you what to believe, but to challenge you to examine why you believe what you believe. Where did it come from? Who told you? What does the evidence support? Have you investigated it yourself, or have you simply trusted the tradition or technology that delivered it?

Because whether you realize it or not, every day you place faith in something.

FAITH will take you into some of those places. Some will be familiar. Some may surprise you. Some may make you uncomfortable. And some may cause you to question things you've accepted your entire life.

Don't blindly believe me either.

Seek the truth for yourself.

Because in a world drowning in information, the question isn't whether you have faith.

The question is: Where are you placing it?
